<span style="font-size: large;"> </span><span style="color: blue; font-size: x-large;">What's Happening Now?</span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;"> Effective immediately, Sid's Painting Service will no longer take commissions at this time. I am reluctant to do this, because I had a wonderful time painting other people's models. It has been an awesome journey for me here at Trollbloodscrum, but there are some circumstances that prevent me continuing to provide service. I had many hopes for this venture, and to see it go far, but at this moment I am at a crossroads. School is keeping me busy, and every year the work load increases; Along with it, so does the stress. This is the primary reason why I chose to close Sid's Painting Service.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> That doesn't mean that I will be leaving Trollbloodscrum. I will continue to do post for the blog as often as time permits. I will post painting projects in the near future of not only Warmachine and Hordes, but minis from other games. I will continue my Tournament Performance articles, but I am going to wait for what the final SR2013 brings for the tourney season. I will be reading up on it, and give my thoughts in future articles.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue; font-size: x-large;">Plans for the Future?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue; font-size: x-large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> As I mentioned before I will be continuing the tourney series of articles. I had a lot of fun writing the first article, and I look forward to doing the second, but I am waiting for the final packet for SR2013.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> I will be posting pictures of finished painting projects that I am currently working on. An example is that I am going to be painting all of my troll models, so that I have a fully painted army. I am doing this because never before in my time playing mini games I have never had a fully painted army, and so this is my goal for the year. I am about to finish up my krielstone unit and the UA, and will post some pics soon.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> I may or may not pick up the painting service again, but that is too far down the road to say for certain. I would like to do commissions again, but I need more time to improve my skills and take care of my family.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> I would like to thank you, the community, for supporting me in my efforts with the painting service. I would like to apologize to those who contacted me and planned on having me paint their models. I hope that you will be able to find someone that will be able to meet your painting needs.</span></div>

I was drawing a blank for most of the night. It seemed like none of my ideas were really good. I got a little frustrated and just put my ear buds in, and listened to Metallica. This song here actually:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<object class="BLOGGER-youtube-video" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" data-thumbnail-src="http://2.gvt0.com/vi/gAGP24eq_0o/0.jpg" height="266" width="320"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gAGP24eq_0o&fs=1&source=uds" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><embed width="320" height="266" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gAGP24eq_0o&fs=1&source=uds" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object></div>
<br />
<br />
Then I began to write down whatever came to mind, and then it suddenly hit me! Before I listened to Metallica, I didn't have anything to motivate me. I literally sat in a perfectly quiet apartment, and I couldn't focus on anything. However, as soon as I put in those noise makers, I began to feel a lot more comfortable and was able to write stuff down.<br />
<br />
What really motivates people to paint? For me it changes with the day, and what sort of mood I am in. First , example was already given. Music is a real motivator for me to get going on a painting project. I can't stand to have a quiet room. I need some background noise, or something going on.<br />
<br />
Along that theme of having background noise, I also like to have a movie or a TV show going. I grew up on Robotech. I love the show still, and I do watch it from time to time. I just started watching it again recently, and since I have seen it many times, I was able to get a lot of painting done. There is a noticeable difference in my ability to stay focused on a project between when I am watching/listening to something or in a dead quiet room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1hTOe-b1EndpK-2HfcdVzleKdIsDdOim71O4xjRHdFyzfPwC4XA9e6cJ5d80_s6jxYAs4XyYOw9OB12-HEnuRXKiViw7ZzUzEJd5p1fLx76ott9CoBITULvObquOiXMg5PTA_nwvChyphenhyphenw/s1600/Robotech-21.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1hTOe-b1EndpK-2HfcdVzleKdIsDdOim71O4xjRHdFyzfPwC4XA9e6cJ5d80_s6jxYAs4XyYOw9OB12-HEnuRXKiViw7ZzUzEJd5p1fLx76ott9CoBITULvObquOiXMg5PTA_nwvChyphenhyphenw/s320/Robotech-21.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I really enjoy painting, but I do need that little something to keep me going, so I can get my models done.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-91870909141443851.post-9748306675568322552012-08-27T00:21:00.001-07:002012-08-27T00:23:21.825-07:00Sid's Return to School...and Shenanigans! This week I will be back to school again, and that means I will be on a more routine schedule. Also, I will be very busy with school work and painting time will dwindle. Even though I am very excited to be back in school and to be closer to getting my degree done, but I love to paint and I still have a lot to do with my current project.<br />
<br />
Speaking of my currently project, I am in the home stretch! I just finished some scouts, Skaldi, Sons of Bragg, and a couple of casters. I will try to get those pics up soon, and tonight I just don't have the energy to post pics and create links. I just want to write tonight, and share some thoughts that I have had.<br />
<br />
I was reading the PP painting forums, and found a little golden nugget of wisdom. I credit this find to Legendaryrat.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/YLO7tCdBVrA?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
It is always a good day when I paint. After I watched Bob teach me wisdom, I realized that I have taken my painting for granted. I haven't enjoyed it as much as I should. I want to be immersed and passionate about my hobby, and want to learn to be a better painter, sculptor, and overall, an artist. It is weird. I am a Computer Engineering major in school, and I want to be a better artist. Two opposite ways of thinking and doing.<br />
<br />
Although my painting is not as superb as others I have seen on the forums, I still enjoy this hobby and want to share what I have done with the community. I love to hear constructive criticism, so that my painting can be improved and so I can provide better quality paint jobs to clients. This has always been my goal.<br />
<br />
I want to thanks everyone who has taken the time to come and support the Scrum and its authors. We love this hobby, and we love to give back to the community!<br />

It has been a while since I last wrote for Shenanigans. I have been very busy since my wife has been home, work, and the holiday. Speaking of which, I hope that everyone had a wonderful USA/Canada Day. I enjoyed some fireworks with my wife and her family in Wyoming. Man what a blast (pardon my pun)!<br />
<br />
Anyways, let me go ahead and update you on what projects I am still working on and completed. I have finally set my self down and put up a schedule of what time and how long I would be painting. It's still taking a bit of effort to get in the habit of doing it, but whatever.<br />
<br />
I picked up a commission from Trevor Christensen, and it is a big one! I will be painting a large array of Troll and Minion models in his collection. This is the largest undertaking for me, and I have become very very busy, because of it. Not meaning to say that it's bad, and it is most certainly not. I enjoy a challenge and an opportunity to really test my endurance in painting. Later in the post there will be an example of what I am painting for him.<br />
<br />
So, let me show you what I have done so far!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><h2 style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">Project ONE - Winterguard + UA, Kovnik Joe, and some extra.</span></h2>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v0VZWIVzHRw/T_hXY2CTiyI/AAAAAAAAAZU/LitSjH-gCfg/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v0VZWIVzHRw/T_hXY2CTiyI/AAAAAAAAAZU/LitSjH-gCfg/s320/003.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This TTQ (Table Top Quality) project I did for one of our locals here in Logan, Dustin Allen. This is a full set of winterguard plus the UA and Kovnik Joe. There were some extra winterguard beyond the unit limit, because he bought an extra min unit box. I can't remember why, though. Anyway, I painted as close as I could to the 5th Border Legion, and I think it turned out awesome. The flag I did a little different from the normal khador red and gold. The armor for the UA I did a bronze instead of the pig iron for the rest of the unit, just so I could distinguish the officer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000;">Project BIG RED ONE - Trolls and Minions Collection</span></h2>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-size: large;">First model - Captain Gunnbjorn</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X98wyHs3qZc/T_hXcDzw-fI/AAAAAAAAAZk/4E9Ru9D3eT4/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-X98wyHs3qZc/T_hXcDzw-fI/AAAAAAAAAZk/4E9Ru9D3eT4/s320/007.JPG" width="320" /></a>
</div>
<br />
Don't ask me why I call it the big red one. This is the first model of the commission I decided to paint, and so far I am loving it. Gunnbjorn is one of a few SQ (Studio Quality) models that I will be painting. I wanted to keep the blue uniform from his time in Cygnar. He is not complete yet, but he is almost finished. After Gunnbjorn I will probably move on to a unit to see how I will do with TTQ.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1t-kglXZoC4/T_hXaU2XpHI/AAAAAAAAAZc/0oOilZTFHb4/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1t-kglXZoC4/T_hXaU2XpHI/AAAAAAAAAZc/0oOilZTFHb4/s320/006.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #0b5394;">A Previous Project - Kharchev the Terrible</span></h2>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XUyRQ5KW5_8/T_hXdB1GoUI/AAAAAAAAAZs/gZblCJANCRQ/s1600/WP_000113.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XUyRQ5KW5_8/T_hXdB1GoUI/AAAAAAAAAZs/gZblCJANCRQ/s320/WP_000113.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I painted him for a friend of mine, and the model I slightly converted myself. I hated the mudflap skirt you had to glue on him, so I put the two smaller skirt parts on the shoulders to make his jack armor more of a uniform, than just simply jack armor.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-phyWCLkgX5M/T_hXdlOOyqI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/OwKrr-b3hhc/s1600/WP_000114.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-phyWCLkgX5M/T_hXdlOOyqI/AAAAAAAAAZ0/OwKrr-b3hhc/s320/WP_000114.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

I realized that I needed to force myself to do it anyway, just so that I don't stop doing it completely. I love posting stuff here on the blog, but I feel that there is something(s) missing, that I should do to make this site better. So I have come up with the following things:<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-size: large;"><b>1. Get a Gallery Page</b></span><br />
I have been stewing about this for a while, but never really done anything with the idea. I will have to work with thegreatblah to get this page nice and clean looking. Also, I want it to be user friendly, so that you don't get lost in the interwebs.<br />
<br />
I will also be posting project pics from projects past, so a lot of them you have already seen, but it is more for my benefit; I like to see what I have done in the past, and keep a record of it. This gallery will all be based on commissions, that I pick up.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-size: large;"><b>2. Get Examples for Pricing Page(s)</b></span><br />
I will be showing 1 maybe 2 examples of work for each category. It might be from past projects or from my own models. This will not just be for Warmachine/Hordes, but also for 40K/WHFB. I will be picking up some 40K stuff in the near future, just for this purpose (also if 6th Ed. proves to be better than 5th, and I might play again). Malifaux I am not completely familiar with, but I am still looking into the game, and seeing what a good price for them might be.<br />
<br />
There are some other games that I might be interested in getting and learning how to play, but I haven't decided what yet. Infinity looks really good, and their models look absolutely awesome! I could use them for my Sci-Fi RPG campaign I am writing right now.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #cc0000; font-size: large;"><b>3. Set a Clear Cut Schedule to Follow</b></span><br />
This summer has been a little irregular for me, due to the fact that my wife has been gone for the past 3 weeks, Lock and Load happened, and the continual job hunt proving to be quite stressful. I may not set Shenanigans to be on a certain day, but Saturdays and Sundays are usually best for me to do things. I would love to go back to Saturday Shenanigans!<br />
<br />
I am currently putting Tenacious Techniques on hold while I am in this process of reorganizing the painting service.<br />
<br />
That is what is on my plate right now, and I am really excited to get things rolling, and keep things fresh!<br />
<br />
For those who have not been to the PP Forums, I posted my Mountain King there, and got some good advice. I mostly just wanted to get a table top paint job on him, and not really stress too much on it. I want to use him a lot, so putting a Studio Quality work on him would not be in my best interests (because I am overly cautious about studio quality figs that I have painted, and will 9 times out of 10 freak out on the inside and pop a blood vessel and maybe a few brain cells).<br />
<br />
So......Here is my Moutain King everybody!<br />
<br />

I will have to skip the Tenacious Techniques for this week, because of my Lock and Load prep, so this will be a short post about what I have done to prepare for my 3 days of awesomeness! I am so excited to go to Lock and Load this year, and I had so much fun last year.<br />
<br />
I am hoping for some good tournament play as I compete in the Masters Tournament, and really improve my skills as a painter and photographer. On the podcast, I mentioned a couple of my classes that I will be attending, and now let me give you the full rundown of my weekend.<br />
<br />
1st day you already know will be the masters qualifiers. 2nd day I will first have sculpting scenic bases, and then I will have a huge run of classes: Concept to Book, Color Theory, and Concept to Table: LEVEL 7. Now we have been already told that LEVEL 7 will be a board game of some type, and I am really excited to find out more about it. the 3rd day I hope I will make it into the finals, but we shall see. In between games and lunch breaks, I will be taking pictures of the scenario tables with fully painted armies locked in heated battle; Then the models in the Grandmaster Painting Competition will get some snap shots, and then any other awesome things that I can find (keeping in mind of the media disclosure agreement of course).<br />
<br />
So here is what I have been working on:<br />

All my trolls now have their bases painted, and got a couple of my solos painted. I am not sure what the problem is with the lighting in the last picture, but I'll just deal with it. Anyways, I hope to see you all at Lock and Load.<br />
<br />Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-91870909141443851.post-3568549843395704042012-05-13T19:29:00.001-07:002012-05-30T14:59:53.273-07:00Sid's Shenanigans - 5/13/2012 Well, it is that time again for more of my shenanigans! It is getting close now to Lock and Load, and I am finalizing preparations for the master's tournament. I realized last week, that I won't be able to finish all my models before the event, and that posed a serious problem to my tournament play.<br />
<br />
I needed to have front arcs on all my bases so that there is no question as to where they are on my models. So, I have decided to put off painting the Borka Family Reunion tier list indefinitely (or possibly after Lock and Load), and focus on basing and painting all the bases of my models, so that I am ready for masters.<br />
<br />
I spent most of this morning prepping my trolls, and I felt conflicted as to how well I will be able to paint the rest of the model. Then I thought, that it should be a huge deal, as long as I paint carefully around the feet I will be fine. Anyway, that is all my stress that I am wading through until L&L hits. Now I'll show you what I have completed.<br />
<br />
I have already posted the pictures on my Facebook page, but here I will give a little commentary:<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red; font-size: x-large;">Calandra and Earthborn</span></h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I finished my little gypsy dancer warlock, and I think she turned out awesome. I painted her for the BBF's on LostHemisphere.com. They are awesome dudes, and it was a lot of fun to paint and put a little back story to her and the homebrew beast I made to go with her. You will eventually see what I have written once it hits their website.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7sJYb9VyJAg/T7BrR8B81lI/AAAAAAAAARU/YfG6pt5M9Ho/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7sJYb9VyJAg/T7BrR8B81lI/AAAAAAAAARU/YfG6pt5M9Ho/s400/003.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I had a couple problems painting the earthborn. I wanted to have it look pretty close to what I did for the mauler, but it didn't turn out as well as I would have liked, but it will do for now. I will go back and fix whatever I didn't like. Overall, he doesn't look all that back. The front arc's color, I noticed, is used by most troll players, so I am going to repaint it to an orange color, which I have an example later.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had a conundrum to deal with, when it came to painting the troll skin on a larger scale. I wanted to get them painted faster, but have the same effect. So I did a little experiment with some paints and washes to get the above. I did a base coat of Skorne Red, and then created a wash of Red ink, Sanguine base, and 3-4 parts water. It turned out pretty nice, and I put the mixture in a little container so that I can use it for all of my trolls. I also used Ember Orange for the front arcs, and I like that a whole lot better than the Trollblood base.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That is it for this week! I hope to get another post in before Lock and Load, and I am not sure about what I will be posting about for Tenacious Techniques. I'll let you know as soon as I figure that out. </div>

<br />
A few weeks ago I had the chance to go spend time with the good ol' parents. We went to dinner as usual, since I don't get to see them all that often. Afterwards, my dad allowed me to use his airbrush kit to paint some (or most) of my troll heavy warbeasts. Ever since that first time I used it, I have always wanted to get my own, but lack the space in our apartment to store it.<br />
As I painted, I realized how little paint I needed to use to cover all of my warbeasts. It was frickin' awesome! I base coated my Mulg, both Earthborns, regular Mauler, and bomber, with half the amount of paint I use to paint half of those models.<br />
<br />
Today I am going to go over how to take care of your airbrush kit first, and then go over some exercises to practice your technique on the airbrush.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><i>The Airbrush: Proper Cleaning and Care</i></span></h2>
<div>
<span style="color: blue;"> </span>First of all, I am going to mainly talk about one specific type of brush, and that is the gravity-fed airbrush. I have more experience with this kind, than I do with the bottle-fed.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Before you ever start using the airbrush, you need to have all the materials that you need to keep your system working at optimal performance. Testors has two different liquid solutions, paint thinner and cleaner. The paint thinner is self-explanatory, it <u>thins your paint</u>! It has similar properties to just plain tap water, but it is still a chemical.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The cleaner is where its really at. All you need is to use 2-3 drops from the bottle to clean your paint well and the air shaft in the brush. You then stir it around in the well to make sure you get all the paint off, and then you spray it out. This, however, is only a temporary measure. I prefer to do a deep clean every time I use an airbrush.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
To do a deep clean of you airbrush, you will need to take apart the brush and clean each of the affected parts individually. I use about 10-12 drops total when doing a deep clean, and it keeps the airbrush in tip-top shape.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
<span style="color: red; font-size: large;">WARNING!</span></h3>
<div>
There are several things you need to keep in mind about each of these parts:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Be careful not to bend the tip of the central pin that lies in the air shaft. It is what allows the even spray of paint onto your model.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In some airbrush systems there are is a small cap that goes onto the pin. DON'T LOSE IT. PERIOD!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h2 style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;"><i>Practice, Practice, Practice...</i></span></h2>
<div>
Using the airbrush is just like any regular brush. The switch on the brush does two things: releases air pressure and releases paint into the shaft. It takes practice to use, and a lot of time to master it and find a balance. What you can do to practice without using models, is use a paper towel first.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The objective is to spray even narrow lines over an over. This helps you get the feel of the system, and how much pressure you should put on the switch. Keep doing this for about 30 mins to an hour, or until you feel comfortable. This is also a good idea before you paint your models, so that you can get into "the groove" with the brush.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The next exercise is much like the first, but instead of straight lines you are going to attempt to draw a simple picture with the brush. Using different colors and very little paint, this will help you practice shading for your models.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I wish that I had pictures for you to see as an example. I may go down to my parents again just to get some WIP's and examples of the exercises. Thanks for reading, and good luck with the airbrush!</div>
<div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; font-size: large;">Address (Sort of)...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This past week was a "Spring Break" of sorts for me at work, since I work for a High School. My initial thought was, "Oh sweet! Now I have tons of time for painting!" Sadly, this was not the case, as events, broken cars, and other things seem to creep in on my extra time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did, however, find some time to paint and prep my models and finish some projects I was working on. My progress has been slowed on the Borka Family Reunion tier list, because of other painting obligations took priority.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ynDl8Mcc5JU/T4HE9z8z0iI/AAAAAAAAAQU/nEVYg_LqUns/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ynDl8Mcc5JU/T4HE9z8z0iI/AAAAAAAAAQU/nEVYg_LqUns/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is was my table looks like currently, and I figured that I could start basing my fennblades. The reasoning was that I had a hard time figuring where my front arc was on my non-painted models. This seemed to really bother me, and I figured I would just paint the bases of the models first, before I painted the model, so that I could just pay the model and have the front arc clearly shown.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ejyEAB8bo0E/T4HE_x-uR5I/AAAAAAAAAQc/h4_EWjeUccI/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ejyEAB8bo0E/T4HE_x-uR5I/AAAAAAAAAQc/h4_EWjeUccI/s320/002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Our little paint bottle dancer... </div>
<br />
I am almost done with my Calandra for Lost Hemisphere's BFF's. I hope to do something fun for her beast. I will post better pictures of her when I am finished with both her and her beast. She has been a blast to paint, and I originally didn't want to paint with such bright colors, but I just went with it and it turned out really well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hzP-98-LA08/T4HFCnmqDXI/AAAAAAAAAQk/Xo-YdxQ2MjE/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hzP-98-LA08/T4HFCnmqDXI/AAAAAAAAAQk/Xo-YdxQ2MjE/s320/003.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I am almost done with Boomhowler and Co. I am going to finish the last four models that I need, and then I will paint the tartan pattern for the entire unit. I needed an example of a finished model to keep me on track with the colors.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dfnUS7gtFtE/T4HFFRHCGNI/AAAAAAAAAQs/5FV5d-RRsGc/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dfnUS7gtFtE/T4HFFRHCGNI/AAAAAAAAAQs/5FV5d-RRsGc/s320/004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Again I apologize for the late post. Things have gotten really busy, since it is getting close to the end of the school year. Here is my plan for after the school year though, I am going to be painting like mad to get all of my models done before Lock and Load comes. I will most likely not finish the all, but I want to get most of them done. Tenacious Techniques topic will be on air brushes and what I have learned from my dad over<br />
Spring Break. Until then, CYA!<br />

Hardcore hobbyists have put a lot of time and effort into making their scenic bases. I wish I had the time to practice sculpting and basing techniques, but life would have me take care of the more important things in life.<br />
Today I am going to go over how I do bases for my minis. It saves a lot of time, but it is in no way a masterpiece winning technique. So let's get started:<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-size: large;"><b><i>Preparing, Flocking, and Painting Bases</i></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-size: large;"><b><i><br /></i></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: large;">Step 1</span><span style="color: #0b5394;">: Preparing the base for flock/sand</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I usually do basing when the model is still bare metal, and then i'll prime it after it is based.When assembling your models, you will notice in the slots there is always empty space. This is the first thing we need to take care of. I use mostly modeling putty to fill in the holes, and then take a sculpting tool to make the surfaces flat. Make sure you have no excess putty on the bottom of the base, or it will be lop-sided. Once that is done we can move onto the next step...</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: large;">Step 2</span><span style="color: #0b5394;">: Putting flock/sand on the base</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
After the putty has solidified, we then take a white glue and brush it onto the base. I prefer Elmer's glue, and I'll take one of my paint brushes, and 'paint' the glue on the base. The key is to cover the entire base in the glue; Leave no spot on the base empty of glue. Then wipe away the excess glue where you don't want to have sand/flock. Finally, dip the model in the sand/flock, and shake off the extra stuff from the base. Let it dry for a full 24 hours, so that the bond is strong enough, when you begin painting.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: large;">Step 3</span><span style="color: #0b5394;">: Prime the model</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Self-explanatory. easiest part of the process.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: large;">Step 4</span><span style="color: #0b5394;">: Base coat</span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is where we start painting the base. Do some research on some different terrain types, and their colors. Study carefully where you need to have your lighting, what your shade/highlight colors need to be, grass/rocks/bushes/etc. For the Kayazy Eliminators I started with a Idrian Flesh base coat.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NA5IsnCxcTk/T2UJxMrgE8I/AAAAAAAAAQM/1LXvL4VCD1M/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NA5IsnCxcTk/T2UJxMrgE8I/AAAAAAAAAQM/1LXvL4VCD1M/s320/007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: large;">Step 5</span><span style="color: #0b5394;">: Highlight the sand/rocks</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I usually dry brush on this step with as little paint as possible, and then I do the next step up in the color scale. In the examples below, I did different colors for the larger rocks than I did the sand.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xg9WWd9Wpt0/T2UJp3vSMvI/AAAAAAAAAP0/yg6vKdwbCY8/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xg9WWd9Wpt0/T2UJp3vSMvI/AAAAAAAAAP0/yg6vKdwbCY8/s320/003.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jmJCPM_M8dw/T2UJsZPtlNI/AAAAAAAAAP8/C_iv4Bn-gqg/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jmJCPM_M8dw/T2UJsZPtlNI/AAAAAAAAAP8/C_iv4Bn-gqg/s320/004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b><span style="color: #38761d; font-size: large;">Step 6</span></b> <span style="color: red;">(optional)</span><b><span style="color: #0b5394;">: Add bushes or grass</span></b> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This part is totally your discretion. I added bushes for pMadrak's base.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QYDgMDCC7dc/T2UJuh4rsvI/AAAAAAAAAQE/7b1VEzH3gf0/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QYDgMDCC7dc/T2UJuh4rsvI/AAAAAAAAAQE/7b1VEzH3gf0/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
That is it! Along with painted models, you will have painted bases too. adding front arcs to the base is completely up to you. You can put tick marks and leave the bases black, if you wanted.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Next week I am going to paint more of Borka's tier list, and see if I can get these guys finished. We'll see you this weekend for Tenacious Techniques!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-91870909141443851.post-81786181891072888072012-03-13T13:07:00.003-07:002012-05-30T15:00:55.451-07:00Sid's Shenanigans - 03/13/2012 Welcome back, and sorry for the long wait for the next shenanigans. I was at a tourney that Saturday down at Game Haven, and had little time to paint or post anything. Today I have some good stuff to show today! I have some Kayazy Eliminators that I have been commissioned to paint finished. Then I will be showing some WIP's of Boomhowler and Co. for Borka's Family Reunion List. So without further adeu, let's kick this pig!<br />
<br />
<br />

<span style="color: red; font-size: large;"><i><b><br /></b></i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
These wonderful ladies of death and pain were a blast to paint, and I originally thought that they were going to take a lot longer, even as a table top quality job. There were a lot of itty-bitty details on the model, and it would have been a beast to paint a studio-quality job on it; It would have been a great challenge nonetheless.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AI1sCANXGC0/T1-lxp8Yg3I/AAAAAAAAAPM/sNjp90iQIgM/s1600/IMG_0328.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AI1sCANXGC0/T1-lxp8Yg3I/AAAAAAAAAPM/sNjp90iQIgM/s320/IMG_0328.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I tried something new with the bases, and I thought it turned out pretty well. I did a Great Coat grey base coat, then highlighted with Ironhull grey and a final highlight with a bone colored paint to make them pop. If you guys want, I can do a mini tutorial on bases for the next Tenacious Techniques.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Again, I had a blast painting these girlies up, and I can't wait to get my own when I start building a mercs force. I may do it if or when I finish painting ALL of my trolls....may I'm aiming a little high......<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I originally started these guys a long time ago, and the priming coat turned out terrible. I was so frustrated with it that I just put them away and never looked at painting them ever again.... Until recently. After all that time and painting today, the base coat seemed to fix itself; It allowed the paint to go on smoothly, and without a problem. This gave me some hope for this unit, and I plan to get the entire unit done by the end of the week (if time permits, of course).</div>

Thanks again for tuning in for another edition of Sid's Shenanigans, and this coming Saturday I will be doing another Tenacious Techniques. The subject will be on Preparing, Flocking, and Painting Bases. I will show some examples of what I did with the Kayazy Eliminator's and Boomhowler's bases. We'll see ya next time!</div>

These post are going to be a short series, and I'll keep posting as long as I have ideas(bah i'm such a noob)! Just a little disclaimer, though; Some of these are merely attempts at styles and techniques, to better my skills as a painter. If you have other ideas of what I could do for Tenacious Techniques, shoot me an email at slaphappysid@trollbloodscrum.com.<br />
<br />
This week I have been dabbling in two techniques, but I will only talk about one of them: Ethereal style.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #0b5394; font-size: large;"><b>Ethereal Painting Style</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #0b5394; font-size: large;"><b><br /></b></span></div>
This was my first attempt at it, and I wasn't quite sure of how to go about it. I picked a typical pallet of colors that match that ghostly look.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-StnEWe82Bvs/T1KTEA78RWI/AAAAAAAAAN8/A0ut0csGQn0/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-StnEWe82Bvs/T1KTEA78RWI/AAAAAAAAAN8/A0ut0csGQn0/s320/005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My next problem was what model was suited for this kind of style. I being a poor college student, I didn't have many models to choose from. Fortunately, I had some Cryx models that I got from my brother; And it is also unfortunate that I actually own Cryx models. Ewww!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I chose Deneghra as the model for this attempt, because of her swaying cloak; I thought it would be appropriate to paint that cloak very ghost-like. So, Here comes the steps the steps that I used.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>1. Priming and Base Coating</b></span></div>
I first primed her white, and based coated her cloak Arcane Blue. I tend to use white, because it makes colors brighter, and I can see the details more.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>2. Ink with Turquoise </b></span><br />
I love using inks. They are the best things in the world for painters. I use a 3:2 ink:water mix when I use them; I used that same ratio for this painting scheme. Other times I might add more water to thin out the ink to get into the recesses.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-swDeyLsh1Wo/T1KXKYKpgQI/AAAAAAAAAOE/D8piMBS0rpI/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-swDeyLsh1Wo/T1KXKYKpgQI/AAAAAAAAAOE/D8piMBS0rpI/s320/001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UrgwBaTSJ-E/T1KXMoAivLI/AAAAAAAAAOM/thYHmNnth_4/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-UrgwBaTSJ-E/T1KXMoAivLI/AAAAAAAAAOM/thYHmNnth_4/s320/002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This next step I branched off, so that you may see the difference between two brush blending and dry brushing. I am not comparing them to each other, but more as to show two different preferences to get the look you want. i did the front of the model with two-brush, and the back side dry brush.<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>3. Two-Brush Blending/Dry Brushing</b></span><br />
For both techniques I used mixtures of Arcane Blue and Frostbite, to get that eerie whitish blue hue. The pictures don't do it any justice. I probably should have gone a little heavier on the frostbite to make it more white, but this was also my first time using the two-brush blending technique. Anyways, I thought that teh model turned out pretty good for a first time.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V7Z8wATMWcI/T1KXU3aGTKI/AAAAAAAAAOs/9M2hPwF0tRo/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V7Z8wATMWcI/T1KXU3aGTKI/AAAAAAAAAOs/9M2hPwF0tRo/s320/007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w8KcOpaKkNA/T1KXi8a_BJI/AAAAAAAAAPE/0Rgp-jpnAGI/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w8KcOpaKkNA/T1KXi8a_BJI/AAAAAAAAAPE/0Rgp-jpnAGI/s320/002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That's it! In hind sight I should have painted a little more Frostbite on the cloak, so that it would show up in the picture better. I really like how it all turned out for both techniques; I won't, however, use it on any ethereal styles with my trolls, but still a good style to know nonetheless.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FHdFug85EuQ/T1KXXX-mYXI/AAAAAAAAAO0/YmYl1vgGgXE/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FHdFug85EuQ/T1KXXX-mYXI/AAAAAAAAAO0/YmYl1vgGgXE/s320/008.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QD4fzKEpf3E/T1KXZcgTccI/AAAAAAAAAO8/wGDS7KnqyOM/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QD4fzKEpf3E/T1KXZcgTccI/AAAAAAAAAO8/wGDS7KnqyOM/s320/009.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

Thanks for reading and next week I will be posting my progress of the Family Reunion tier list, and all that fun jazz. I haven't decided on the next Tenacious Techniques topic yet, but I will think it over the next week or so. Cheers and Good Luck!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-91870909141443851.post-67800926118283732462012-02-26T21:14:00.002-08:002012-05-30T15:00:55.425-07:00Sid's Shenanigans! - 02/26/2012I do apologize for the delay in posting, but much like Goris, Life sometimes take priority. So I want to do a little 'catch-up' with what I had in mind for painting posts.<br />
<br />
First, I want to mention that I loved reading the Vox Populi post on LHR, and seeing those theme forces painted. So, I wanted to get a theme force painted too, even though Vox Populi is over. I will be posting what I have been painting for Borka's Family Reunion theme force. I really love this theme force, and I played it a couple times, and I have loved playing it everytime. It is a blast to play!<br />
Second, I will still be posting commissioned painting pictures along with my theme force pictures. I will do some commentaries on them of course. These and the them force pictures will be posted every other week, and they will be listed as 'Sid's Shenanigans!'<br />
On the other weeks I want to do some posts about techniques I have learned, want to learn, and in the process of learning. For some of those who wonder how I paint things, I will post pictures and some step-by-step processes of my techniques; I will also dabble into other techniques and do some research. Then, I will post pictures of my attempts at these techniques.<br />
Now that I am back in the swing of things with painting posts! Let's begin with the Shenanigans!<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;"> My collection of models for this list are not quite complete and I hope to get them in the future; For right now, however, I am going to just paint what I have, and once I am done, I 'll get the other models I need and add them to the army. Some of these models are already painted, some partially, some bare metal. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;"> I made a trade a while ago with, and this is a special shout out to, LordPhade in the UK. Without him, I wouldn't have the collection of Troll models that I do right now. I traded most of my Khador for his Trolls. I was a happy man getting those trolls.Anyway, here is my list for Borka's Family Reunion Theme List at 50 pts:</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
That's right people I own not 1, not 2, but 3 UNITS OF CHAMPIONS!!!!! Call me crazy, but I think it's awesome to field 15 of these bad boys in a scenario with reinforcements. I also love Boomhowler and his buddies. His was my first mercenary unit I ever owned. Thanks Dallas for the unit! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Speaking of which, Boomhowler and his boys are going to be the first unit I am going to tackle for painting. I did paint Boomhowler, but I am not satisfied with what I have done with him. I want to add a tartan pattern to him and his unit, but I don't now what colors I'm going to use. I'll think about it throughout the week, and test out what I want.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I got Gudrun, because I have heard and read that this guy is really good! Especially, now that he is friendly faction for trolls. It make him that much better. I haven't been able to play him yet, due to not having his mark II card, but I hope to get one soon. He may be target number two on my painting list, because he is bare metal, and I hate having bare models.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There he is in all his drunken glory! Borka, pyg carrier and Mauler!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I may switch out the Mauler for Rok, when he get's released, and that will put me to 50 pts.</div>

That is the start of my theme force I want to paint! I have also been commissioned to paint a pair of Kayasy Eliminators, and I will be painting them during the week. Next week, I will dabble into techniques of how to paint Ethereal models. Something I haven't tried yet, but I will try out some ideas I have had to accomplish it. See you all again in two weeks. Here are some pics of a few models left to paint:<br />

I also want to announce for this week's challenge, I am going to paint a model that I should have painted a long time ago. I have been pestered and harassed to paint it, and I finally have begun to do so. I will be painting the Extreme sculpt of a Khador Destroyer! Yeah! I am so excited, and he is going to be so awesome. Not only that I am going to put him up for auction as soon as he is finished, so if you want to get you hands on him, keep your eye on Ebay for him. He could be yours in the near future!<br />
For now, See Ya!<br />

I finally put up a Facebook page for the painting service, for those who like to facebook a lot. For now what I will do is post pictures of past projects into their own albums, and from there I will be able to put up links to the Shenanigans posts.<br />
<br />
I will add more cool stuff to it once I think of it, and have more time to invest into polishing the page. Thanks guys for the comments on the models, and we'll see ya around on the interwebs!<br />

It's the first Shenanigans of the year, and it's great to be back on the painting track. I have my schedule finally in order after the wedding and honeymoon stuff. Now let's get down to business! Since we are going to be doing the weekly challenge, I will be moving my Shenanigans to Sunday. Same ol' Shenanigans, different day. I will also be able to paint a little everyday so I can post on Sunday.<br />
<br />
I also mentioned on Twitter, that I will be opening up my painting service to all miniature games, and I'll use our current pricing as a reference should you need a quote on models. They will not be exactly that amount for other games, but we'll work something out to get the best price for your models to be looking great!<br />
<br />
Today I will be posting some pics of the Mage Hunter Strike Force and my pMadrak. I am not done with the unit yet, but I have been making some serious progress. There was more detail than I realized, but since it is only a table-top quality project, I will be able to get through it quickly. So here are your beloved angry elves WIP pics!<br />

I have been struggling with pMadrak a lot, because I don't know how I am going to distringuish him from the rest of the trolls, since he is an albino troll. I decided to make his skin darker, instead of lighter, compared to the rest of the trolls. I tried to the yellow/orange skin tone for him, but just didn't look right to me, so I stuck with the darker colors. Without further delay, here is pMadrak!</div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><b>Announcements</b></span> </div>
Welcome back to another episode of shenanigans! At the behest of my fellow authors I have been "persuaded " to make another post. It has been a while since I have last painted and I feel a little rusty, but once school is over I will have more time to paint, and get things done.<br />
I have begun to paint the Magnus battlgroup, and I will not post WIP pics of them, because I want y'all to be surprise when you see the final product of what I will be donating for the Breast Cancer Brawl (snicker snicker). I have been wanting to make my shenanigans more...shenanigany, so I have looked at my previous posts and see what I could do better to make it these posts actually worth reading. After some severe critiquing by yours-truly, I am going to make a few changes in how I post.<br />
<br />
First, I am going to post what paints I used this session to get the look of the model. This will help those that want to use the same colors I did to get the scheme that they want. Second, I am going to list step-by-step what was done to the model mixed with pictures from the model. Just in case someone wanted to copy how I painted the model. I hope that y'all enjoy this new format, and that you will want more shenanigans!<br />
<br />
The guinea pig for this will be my buddy Jason's Mage Hunter Strike Force! I had to think how I was going to paint these guys for the typical angry elf colors. So, I decided to just get as close as I could and go from there. Alright, people let's git-r-dun!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><b>Phase 1:</b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Base coated the face Khardic Flesh, and then applied a thin coat of Flesh Wash. Highlighted with a mixture of Khardic Flesh and Ryn Flesh with several stages of highlights. Applied two coats of Flesh wash, and then highlighted again with a mixture of Khardic and Ryn Flesh, and painted a final highlight of Ryn Flesh.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0TAoGaIATD4/TuRCsXLf5-I/AAAAAAAAAKY/JAeZq6B0KRQ/s1600/IMG_0227.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0TAoGaIATD4/TuRCsXLf5-I/AAAAAAAAAKY/JAeZq6B0KRQ/s320/IMG_0227.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><b>Phase 2:</b></span><br />
Carefully brushed several coats of Morrow White on the collar, cuffs and little armor bits. Mixed Trollbood Base and Morrow White and slowly painted in the crevasses of the hip armor piece. Finally, drybrushed Morrow White over that same piece. Painted the eye-patch Thamar Black.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FWooU6NULkA/TuRCqpKoczI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/ozYQRLQHq8g/s1600/IMG_0226.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FWooU6NULkA/TuRCqpKoczI/AAAAAAAAAKQ/ozYQRLQHq8g/s320/IMG_0226.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #990000;"><b>Phase 3:</b></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Base-coated the cloak Gnarls Green. Drybrushed a mixture of Gnarls Green and Ironhull Grey over the "peaking" parts of the cloak in stages, and applied a light coat of a Gnarls Green/Umbral Umber mixture to the "valley" areas. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is just the beginning for this unit. I should be able to paint it very quickly, because Jason asked only for a table-top paint job. I plan on doing a little bit more than that, but either way they will turn out great.<br />
<br />
I appreciate any comments or feedback on how I present shenanigans. It will help me run things better in the future, and so that you all can get your fix of painted models. I hope that you enjoyed this issue of S^3, and tune in again when I will attempt to paint the rest of the model, and begin "assembly line" painting them. Have a Merry Christmas, and bash some heads in with Trolly goodness! Peace!<br />

<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>Hello to all the Scrummers out there, and welcome back to another edition of Sid's Saturday Shenanigans. After a long break due to overwhelming school projects and deadlines. Finally, I will be able to make a post on the final product of the Scythean. It looks amazing, and it will look terrifying on the battlefield.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: center;">
<b>ANNOUNCEMENTS</b></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>In other news here is what's going on right now, future projects down the road, and also some ideas I have been churning in my head to shake up the Shenanigans. You guys are going to love what I have in mind for future posts.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: center;">
<b>Projects</b></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>First of all, the next project that demands my attention is the Magnus pink battlegroup for Breast Cancer Brawl. I have yet to get all the models for it, but there is nothing wrong with getting started right now. After that I have a full unit of Mage Hunter Strike Force and the UA. They will be painted the standard colors of Retribution with a little twist of my own. I am sure that Jason will love this little angry elves once they are done. As for my own models, I have decided to repaint my troll battlegroup and the few other models that I have for them. I was not sufficiently satisfied with the priming job that I did. It wasn't smooth enough to do a quality paint job on them.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>I also still have Strakhov to finish, and there is not much left to do for him, and you will soon see pictures of him when he is done. I am very proud of how he turned out, and can't wait to use him on the table.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: center;">
<b>The Future of Shenanigans</b></div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>For future posts, I am planning on streaming my painting sessions so you can see what I am painting at that particular moment. I will also be doing commentary on the techniques, that I use to get that top quality paint job. On the stream, you will be able to ask me questions about painting, personal stuff, armies that I play, or whatever strikes your fancy. Please be aware, that this is still in planning, and I need to get all the details flushed out and proper timings for breaks, and when I will be streaming. I hope to get this started sometime next year, when things die down a little after the wedding.</div>
<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;">

<div style="font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>Well, that is it for announcements, let me show you now the final pics of the Scythean! Enjoy!</div>

<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>As you can see on the large talons, I decided to do a gradual shading from light to dark starting from the point. I thought that this would be a fun idea to make the model 'pop out' a little more. I did a similar thing with the claws on the legs and little arms.</div>

I gave the skin a little more of a red tint, by doing a highlight of skorne red with a dash of sanguine base. I liked it a lot better after the application, and it gives the model much more character.</div>

<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>Thanks for tuning in to this weeks Shenanigans! Hey everyone! Welcome back to another edition of S^3. This time I have a little more to show. It is taking me a little longer than planned to paint the Scythean, but it has been a fun experience. I am almost done with the table-top phase of the painting, and will move on soon with the fine details.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have been asked to donate my painting skills for our Breast Cancer Brawl, and I will be painting the Magnus Battlebox to be auctioned off in January. It will be a challenge, but I am honored to paint this for a good cause. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
These past couple of weeks have been very stressful, but I have been doing my best to keep the Shenanigans going. Thanks for all of your support to keep it up.</div>

Welcome back to the Shenanigans! This weekend I was able to get things rollin' with the Scythean. I have the basic idea of what colors are going to be for the chitin and skin, and now I just need to get the table top quality done, so I can move on to the details.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This is just going to be a quick post showing some WIP pics that I have. I am sorry, that I won't be able to go into details. Today is going to be a very busy day for me and my fiancee. I will try to get more done in the next issue of Shenanigans.</div>

<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>Welcome, Welcome Scrum Bums to another edition of Shenanigans! I have finished the Drakhun, and am itching to show you the final product of this awesome Khador model. However, before we get to the pictures, I need to talk about my appearance on the Scrum Cast!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>As you may or may not know. I will be doing a little section on painting during the cast, and will be answering some questions about how to make a showcase model for master quality. To give you an idea of what I will be discussing, I will give you an outline of some steps to a master quality paint job. Please be aware, that this helps me to get that quality, and there are other ways to go about this:</div>
<div>
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>I.<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Begin with your table-top quality paint job</div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>A.<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Paint how you normal do</div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>B.<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Try to cover the entire model as best you can</div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>II.<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Clean-up Phase</div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>A. <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>Paint areas where mistakes were made</div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>B. <span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>paint edges to be smooth and crisp (meaning with no spill-overs)</div>
<div>

<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>1. Mixing Colors</div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>2. Thinning Your Paint</div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>3. Paint Multiple Layers of Same Color If Necessary</div>

<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>1. Every area must be painted</div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>2. Very fine detail brushes are great for this</div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>3. Do one final clean-up</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>This is just to get you started, and stay tuned for the Scrum Cast for more details of the painting techniques. Again, this outline is what works for me to get to that master quality, and other people may have other ways of doing it and that's fine.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>Now, let's get to today's showcase model: the Man-O-War Drakhun!</div>
<div>

<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span"><u><br /></u></span></div>
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>The body of the horse was the biggest challenge for me, because I had no idea what I wanted to do that would complement the armor and the rider. I tried to keep that black fur, but it just didn't bring out the horse that much, and took away from the armor. So I did a dark brown fur, and made some highlights, and it really made the horse shine.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JoC0T2wBRio/Tpoqv4lIoaI/AAAAAAAAAGw/GIjdXtCN3lM/s1600/DrakhunFinal5.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663886483502178722" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JoC0T2wBRio/Tpoqv4lIoaI/AAAAAAAAAGw/GIjdXtCN3lM/s400/DrakhunFinal5.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /></a><br />
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>For the armor, I wanted to keep that traditional red, but make it a little darker much like a maroon color. The steel parts I wanted to leave a little rusted to give that battle-hardened look to him.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CdD2pHGma6o/TpoqvX9OQ0I/AAAAAAAAAGk/VSGRYkADx-o/s1600/DrakhunFinal3.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5663886474744841026" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CdD2pHGma6o/TpoqvX9OQ0I/AAAAAAAAAGk/VSGRYkADx-o/s400/DrakhunFinal3.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /></a><br />
<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"></span>Normally for basing models, I paint the smaller gravel parts brighter than the larger ones, but I decided to reverse that today, and it turned out beautifully. I am going to use this technique for the rest of my models and projects that I do. This particular base really adds to the model as well, and I really like how it turned out.<br />
